Smoke testing to begin the week of March 13 in northwest Bryan

Some residents may see smoke emanating from northwest Bryan as the city’s contractor performs smoke testing on sanitary sewer lines.

Testing will continue intermittently through March and April in the following areas: Alabama Avenue, Allen Circle, Arizona Avenue, Augusta Court, Augusta Drive, Bethany Drive, Big Bend Drive, Big Horn Drive, Bluejay Lane, Bonham Drive, Brac, Buccaneer Trail, Caleb Court, Candy Lane, Cardinal Drive, Chapel Court, Charleston Street, Chisholm Trail, Christopher Circle, Clarks Lane, Conquest Circle, Contreras Lane, Creekwood Drive, Doorman Court, Drew Drive, Driftwood Drive, Eastwood Court, Elaine Drive, Elkhorn Trail, Emerald Drive, Falcon Drive, FM 974, Forest Hills Court, Foxwood Drive, Georgia Avenue, Glacier Drive, Hardwood Drive, Hefti Circle, Highwood Lane, Indian Trail, Indiana Avenue, Iverson Drive, Judythe Court, Judythe Drive, Kerry Lane, Keystone Circle, Keystone Drive, Kim Street, Lakewood Street, Laura Lane, Lightfoot Lane, Log Hollow Drive, Lost Oak Drive, Louisiana Avenue, Maggie Street, Malvern Street, Margaret Street, Mariposa Court, Marsh Street, McHaney Drive, Mckenzie Street, Messenger Way, Milton Street, Minnesota Avenue, Missouri Avenue, Montana Avenue, Mossy Creek Court, Mumford Road, N. Residents may see smoke exit from vent pipes on the roofs of homes and businesses, manholes and the ground where broken sewer pipes may exist. The smoke is non-toxic, does not leave a residue and does not create a fire hazard. The smoke will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing present or drain traps are dry. Residents and business owners can help prevent smoke from entering their buildings by pouring about one gallon of water into seldom-used drains.

Smoke testing helps identify broken pipes and other defects by having field crews inject smoke into the sewer lines through manholes. Crews will enter properties to document the defects, but they will not enter private residences and you do not need to be home during the process.
