Residents in south areas of Bryan near W. Villa Maria Road & N. Harvey Mitchell Parkway may see smoke emanating from various areas beginning the week of Oct. 7, as contractors with the City of Bryan perform smoke testing on sanitary sewer lines. This work is dry weather dependent and may be postponed due to rain.
Smoke testing helps identify broken pipes and other defects by having field crews inject smoke into sewer lines through manholes. During this process, crews will enter properties to document the defects, but they will not enter private residences. You do not need to be home during the testing.
Residents may see smoke exit from vent pipes on the roofs of homes and commercial businesses, manholes and the ground where broken sewer pipes may exist. The smoke is non-toxic, does not leave a residue nor create a fire hazard. The smoke will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing present or drain traps are dry. Residents and business owners can help prevent smoke from entering their buildings by pouring about one gallon of water into seldom-used drains.
Testing will continue intermittently throughout October in the following areas: Bayberry Court, Bienski Parkway, Bishops Gate Circle, Blanco Lane, Brandywine Circle, Broken Arrow Circle, Cassandra Court, Cedarwood Drive, Cids Lane, Cobblestone Lane, Cougar Trail, Crestwood Drive, Deer Trail, Dewberry Lane, Dimrill Dale Circle, Eagle Hill Court, Elvenking Court, Finfeather Road, Forestwood Drive, Frio Circle, Galindo Way, Gato Lane, Goldberry Circle, Heatherwood Dr, Helms Gate Circle, Hidden Hollow Circle, Hummingbird Circle, Jaguar Court, Jaguar Drive, La Brisa Drive, Leon Street, Lis Lane, Lobo Drive, Lola Lane, Lorito Circle, Manorwood Drive, Mirkwood Court, Mirrormere Circle, Mistywood Circle, Monito Way, N.
