Development Services Wins Ninth Consecutive Planning Excellence Award
The City of Bryan’s Development Services was awarded with the 2024 Richard R. Lillie, FAICP, Planning Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. This marks the ninth consecutive year Bryan has achieved this honor, joining 53 other Texas municipalities recognized.
The award highlights municipalities that excel in raising community awareness about the value of planning, exceeding professional standards, garnering community support for planning initiatives, offering professional development opportunities for staff and commissioners, contributing to economic development, and enhancing the overall community image.
2024 Development Services Highlights
- Staff handled approximately 19,600 calls in 2024, a 41% decrease from 36,000 in 2023. This improvement reflects the success of CitizenServe, the city’s Development and Engineering Services online portal, which launched in June 2023 and expanded in 2024. The portal has made it easier for customers to access services efficiently and conveniently.
- Staff performed 25,199 building inspections in 2024, an increase of 1,499 from 2023, and issued 728 building permits for new detached single-family homes, an increase of 121 compared to 2023.
- Staff processed 190 redevelopment applications, 176 new development review cases, and held 158 pre-development meetings.
