Old Hearne Road Extension Project

Project Introduction

The extension of Old Hearne Road will connect Indian Trail to the southbound Highway 6 frontage road, and link the existing neighborhood sidewalk near Timberline Drive with a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk, improving pedestrian access to the Bryan Regional Athletic Complex (BRAC).

Project Improvements

The project includes approximately 1,800 feet of concrete roadway with storm drains, curbs, and gutters. It will extend from the current end of Old Hearne Road, maintaining a 45-foot width before narrowing to 30 feet at the new intersection at the Highway 6 frontage road. Additionally, a 525-foot road and sidewalk extension will connect to existing infrastructure behind the new Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) building and BRAC. This section will be 27 feet wide to match the existing street. Nearly 3,000 feet of new sidewalk will be added to enhance walkability between the neighborhood and the city’s athletic complex.

Design and Construction Funding and Timeline

Design of this project was funded by the Fiscal Year 2022 bonds, with Gessner Engineering preparing the plans. Construction, funded through the 2024 bond issuance, started on Feb. 17 and is expected to be completed by fall 2025.

Impact on Nearby Residents

During construction, nearby residents may experience minor traffic disruptions, particularly during sidewalk installation, as well as construction noise during the contractor’s working hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Since most of the work is outside the existing subdivision, residents should see minimal impact once the new sidewalks are complete.
