Lifeguard Shortage Causes Modified Hours at City-Owned Pools

Three red "GUARD" labeled rescue tubes placed prominently in front of an outdoor swimming pool on a sunny day with clear skies and a lifeguard chair in the background.

A lifeguard shortage has led the Bryan Parks and Recreation Department to modify pool hours to keep patron safety a top priority. The change won’t impact programs or scheduled rentals. Hours will be reassessed if more lifeguards are hired.

Memorial Day weekend hours have been altered. On Saturday, May 25, Henderson Harbor and Sadie Thomas Pool will operate from 1 – 7 p.m., and on Sunday, May 26, the Bryan Aquatic Center will host “Slide into Summer” from 1 – 7 p.m.

The modified hours will take effect on Monday, May 27:

Bryan Aquatic Center
3100 Oak Ridge Drive | 979-209-5222

Lap Swim
Monday – Friday: 5:30 – 7:30 a.m. / 12 – 8 p.m.
Saturday – Sunday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Recreational Swim
Tuesday – Sunday: 1 – 7 p.m.

Water Aerobics
Tuesday – Friday: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
If weather permits, daily admission fees apply.

Henderson Harbor

Monday, Tuesday, and Friday: 1 – 7 p.m.

Sadie Thomas Pool
