Melissa Brunner to be sworn in as City Secretary

Melissa Brunner will be sworn in as the Bryan City Secretary on Friday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers, following the retirement of Mary Lynne Stratta.

“On behalf of the City Council and myself, I am proud to announce the appointment of Melissa Brunner as our new City Secretary,” said Mayor Bobby Gutierrez. “Melissa’s 25 years of professional experience in local government and the exceptional work she has performed as Deputy City Secretary, give us full confidence in her ability to lead with the same dedication and excellence our community has come to expect.”

Ms. Brunner has served as the city’s Deputy City Secretary since May 1, 2023 and has been a certified Texas Registered Municipal Clerk since 2003. Prior to joining the City of Bryan, she served in the City Secretary’s Office for Fort Worth.

Additionally, Ms. Brunner received her Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) in 2009, followed by her Master Municipal Clerk designation in 2021.

Since 2000, Ms. Brunner has been an active member of the Texas Municipal Clerk Association (TMCA) and has served on multiple association committees: Chair of Municipal Clerk of the Year, Chair of the Texas Municipal League (TML) Booth Committee, on the Advisory Management Committee, the Retirement Committee, the Strategic plan Committee, the Membership Committee, and two terms as the Chair of the Certification Committee. She currently serves on the Bylaws Committee, the Technology Committee, and the IIMC 2027 Conference Committee.

Ms. Brunner has been a member of and served in every officer position for the Capital Chapter of Municipal Clerks as well as serving on multiple committees. She was also a member of the North Texas Municipal Clerks Association Chapter while in the metroplex.

She was honored as the Capital Chapter’s Municipal Clerk of the Year twice and was the Chapter’s nominee for the Texas Municipal Clerks Association Municipal Clerk of the Year.

A proud alumna of Texas A&M University, Ms. Brunner holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication, and is excited to be back in Bryan serving the community she loves.
