Smoke testing near Traditions throughout September

Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, and continuing throughout September, contractors with Water Services will conduct intermittent smoke testing of sanitary sewer lines. The testing is weather-dependent and may be postponed if it rains.

Smoke testing identifies broken pipes and other defects by injecting smoke into the sewer lines through manholes. Crews will document defects on properties but will not enter private residences; you do not need to be home during the process.

The testing area includes properties within the boundaries of Atlas Pear Drive, Biomedical Way, Burgess Lane, Chinquapin Court, Club Drive, Elm Creek Court, F&B Road, Golf Learning Center, Health Science Center Drive, Health Science Center Loop, HSC Parkway, Lake Atlas Drive, North Shore Drive, Palo Verde Circle, Pinyon Creek Drive, Red Cedar Court, River Birch Circle, South Traditions Drive, Turkey Creek Road, and Willow Ridge Drive.

Residents might see smoke coming from vent pipes on rooftops, manholes, and the ground where broken sewer pipes may exist. The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and does not create a fire hazard. It will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing or dry drain traps. To prevent smoke from entering buildings, residents should pour about one gallon of water into seldom-used drains.

For questions, contact Water Services at 979-209-5900.
