Residents in areas of Bryan near West Villa Maria Road and North Harvey Mitchell Parkway, as well as Leonard Road and North Harvey Mitchell Parkway, may see smoke emanating from various locations beginning the week of Nov. 4. Contractors with the City of Bryan will perform smoke testing on sanitary sewer lines. This work is weather-dependent and may be postponed due to rain.
The smoke testing identifies broken pipes and other defects by having field crews inject smoke into sewer lines through manholes. During this process, crews will enter properties to document defects but will not enter private residences. Residents do not need to be home during the testing.
Residents may see smoke exit from vent pipes on the roofs of homes and businesses, manholes, and the ground where broken sewer pipes may exist. The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and does not create a fire hazard. It will not enter a house unless there is defective plumbing or dry drain traps. Residents and business owners can help prevent smoke from entering buildings by pouring about one gallon of water into seldom-used drains.
Testing will continue intermittently through Nov. 4 to Dec. 15 in the following areas: Bellaire Mobile Home Park, Crossing Drive, Harper Lane, Rice Drive, Marquis Drive, Silk Oak Drive, Basil Court, Cottage Grove Circle, Forge Hill Road, Gateshead Road, Sandy Lane, Creek Circle, Rock Hollow Loop, West Bronze Lane, Turkey Creek Road, White Stone Drive, Ibis Court, Beaver Pond Court, Lola Lane, and Bienski Parkway.
Residents with questions should contact the City of Bryan’s Water Services Department at 979-209-5900.
